I have a sneaking suspicion that may be the one I owned years ago.

I wouldn't doubt that in the least. How many of these could be out there in the wild?

Is it just me, or is the control plate not flush with the body?

Yeah that rear control plate is weird. And looking again, I can't be sure that's a wenge fingerboard. Looks dark like ebony, in which case it wouldn't be mine after all.

I'm not sure if they've ever made fretless basses with wenge fingerboards, Matt... unless someone pulled the frets from a fretted neck with the one you had?

Yeah I had the frets removed and maple veneer inserted in the slots. It also had the epoxy treatment. It was a sweet bass. This one looks like it has a coating on the fingerboard, but I could be wrong. Also, I'm second guessing my memory of the fingerboard wood. Did they do ebony on fretted models in '96 I wonder?

Matt, that neck sure looks like Wenge to me... I have Wenge stringers on my custom, and it looks just like that, with the same grain-gaps that this neck exhibits.... I'm saying Wenge!
