I am against those comments of "If You Want to Play it", I get it it's a 75 Ric but don't put it under glass and never play it. I have a ton of basses but I play all of them. Depending on location and weather I will make a decision on what bass to use but that it to protect the more valuable basses but they all get played. That is what they are made for.

Agreed. My personal rule is if I can't bring it to a gig,I'm not buyin it.

I found a 1969 Jazz bass on Gbase a few years ago. The seller was asking a ridiculous price for it so I contacted him just to ask about the bass and why he was asking so much for it. When I asked him how it played, he told me he never played it nor was he a professional musician. It was in a glass display case in his office and that he had put it there when he bought it several years earlier.

When I bought my 68 P bass in 1999, the seller (a collector) practically made me swear that I wasn't a player and that I was buying it to collect and preserve. It looked almost new-old-stock-ish. Of course, I bought it with every intention of playing it as my main instrument, and now 15 years later it's completely road worn and beautiful, all dinged up and rubbed out. I love every minute with it and would do the same all over again.

His buy-in-now price is comparable to what I see the 2012 lefty 4003 Ricks listed for on eBay. Why would you buy a new one over a vintage one, presuming it's in good playable condition?

Asking prices don't mean much, not to me. Look at the completed sales on Ebay. Last I looked I didn't see a 4003 go for more than $1700. And you might be able to get a new one for that price, or not much more.
