That's actually kinda cool. Looks pretty good on the bass! I used to have a 1987 SR800LE and it was by far the easiest playing bass I have ever laid my hands on. Unbelievably fast neck!

I wonder why that 5th neck bolt was added :P

They seem pretty highly-rated. I doubt you could go wrong for $285.

What does "Hi-Fi Stereo Sound" mean? I wonder. That sounds a little gimmicky to me

Does anyone know where the truss rod adjust is on this bass? The picture of the headstock doesn't clearly show one to my eyes, and I think that's where it should be. Am I missing something?

Wow, what a shame.

it has one right there in the head-stock.
it doesn't show the rod but the slut under the strings right behind the nut is there.
BUT, I don't think that's the original neck.
that 5ths bolt is obviously added and there's something wanky with where the neck joins the body up front.
the hole? usually that's either straight up wood tones or finish all the way right there. never both.
it allso looks like the inner most bolt on the top row isn't attached to the neck at all.
if I had to guess I'd say the neck broke, this is a replacement neck, who's joint didn't go far enough into the instrument.
so a block was placed right in the hole and a 5th, middle, bolt was added in the back to hold the neck in place.
I bet two of those bolts are just clamping that blue block in the hole.

The neck IS original. Some numbnuts just sanded off most of the finish. I also seriously doubt there is a prostitute hidden in the truss rod slot. That color was never made for the U.S. market. Too bad that bass was altered so much; I'd love to have a stock one in that color.

Colour isn't original, definitely a refin. The finish on the auctioned bass has a very rough texture to it, doesn't look like a factory job. There have been blue early SR800's (including lefties), the colour was called Lazer Blue. But this one is definitely not lazer blue. This is:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1986-Ibanez-SR8 ... 3ce77aadbd I can see the slot, just don't see an adjusting nut or truss rod. Is it just me?

Can't remember how deep the adjustment nut was tucked away on mine, I sold mine around 10 years ago. Could well be below the nut though. Here's an SR405Q where the nut sits pretty deep:
