That is not a Cortobass and in fact does not match anything in Birdsongs lineup.
I suppose it could be a custom, Birdsong does a few from time to time,
But something is definitely fishy in Denmark.

See link for Birdsong Corto Bass @ NJG&B Center. http://www.newjerseyguitarandbasscenter ... anded.html The one on Ebay could be a one off custom and for $600. would be a bargain since they go for around $2000. new. I would contact Scott at Birdsong. He would be able to confirm if it is indeed a Birdsong. http://www.birdsongguitars.com/ The headstock does look legit and the 245 S/N on the back of the headstock would help Scott to verify it. I owned the one for sale at NJG&B. This one on Ebay is a simpler set up with only one pick up and what I would guess is a volume only control. They are good sounding basses and if you like short (31") scale basses this could be a steal.

Hey jersey, can you give us a quick review of the Birdsong you had? I played a gig a couple years ago with another band whose bass player had one, and I thought it sounded good. He said he really liked the feel and playability of it. What did you think of it?

Agreed Jersey, If they can confirm it is a custom job by Birdsong, then that is a steal.
The neck does look legit, but since they are bolt-on I was concerned that some one used the neck or else reconfigued a the body.
Like I mentioned in my first post, this could be a custom job because Birdsong does offer on-offs and some custom builds for sale from time to time.

The Cortobass has a base price of $1900, so if that is a Birdsong custom it is a heck of a good deal.

I' ve always liked the look of Birdsong basses and have only heard very good things about them. They are also one of the boutique builders that don't upcharge for lefties.

Sure. http://www.birdsongguitars.com/C244f.jpg The Cortobass I owned, which is now for sale at New Jersey Guitar and Bass Center in Edison NJ, is a short (31" ) scale, contoured mahagony body, bolt on maple neck with a slab rosewood fingerboard. It has 2 Lace passive (not lace sensor) pickups, a single coil in the neck position and a humbucker in the center. I opted for the varitone and it really gives you a lot of tone options from deep bass to bright. The bass weighs only 6 1/2 lbs and is well balanced when standing or sitting. The build quality of the bass is top notch and flawless. The hardware is Hipshot ,tuners are ultra lights. The fretwork was very good. Soundwise it sounds like a short scale with a little more definition in the lower register than other short scales I've played. Maybe the 31" scale has something to do with that. The neck width at the nut is 1.5" and it has some girth and felt very comfortable and played fast. The body and neck had a smooth oil finish. I really liked the tone of the bass with the varitone set at the 2nd deepest bass position. All in all a great little bass that could hang at a gig and sat well in the band mix. Never got a chance to record with it , but the electronics were dead quiet. Hope this helps.

forget the Birdsong - check out that Ibanez!!

every single one of these I've had thru the shop have been incredible to play. IIRC they're a 33" or 32-1/2" scale. The necks are simply perfect.

only thing I'd do different is to lose the pickups for something closer to a 60's/70's Fender

Apples and oranges. But those "lawsuit" Ibanez's are great basses.

Birdsong Cortobass, Landing bass and Ibanez Jazz are all now "on hold" at NJG&B Center. Anyone here snag any of these?

Stopped by NJG&B on Sat. The Birdsong,Landing and 70's Ibanez Jazz are all sold and gone. Jay is now a Birdsong dealer if anyone is interested. Scott at Birdsong is in the process of forming a dealer network.
