Non original pickup (Duncan replacement) which is probably why it's priced at $1600. But a 1977 neck and 1979 pots and a good weight of 9 lbs makes it worth a look. Matt , did you get the 79 Natural P from Elderly and if so how do you like it?

I did and it's amazing in every way, not to mention in new old stock condition

Bass is not '79...

-Tort guard on '79 very uncommon
-9lbs for a '79 very uncommon
-Headstock Decal is pre-77
-Serial dates to 1976

I believe the tuners are pre 77 also . After 76 they used the reversible type that can be taken apart and be made to be left or right handed.

I can't read the serial number on the neck plate.

1979 date is based on the date stamp on the pots. (We've beaten this subject to death in numerous other posts). The listing states the neck is 1977. Like many lefty basses from that era at Fender this was most likely assembled from lefty parts hanging around the factory for a few years.

Here's a photo of my 1975 P bass. As you can see the "thumb" rest is on the g string side, which was not common in 1975. http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=197 ... tedIndex=1
