somethings not right with it........looks like it has a new fingerboard. I'm thinking it was previously a maple board.

Could be. It's got the skunk stripe on the back of the neck and the filler wood piece at the end of the fingerboard/bottom of head stock where the truss rod was installed. If in doubt I would question the seller.

I did. He claims that it's the original board. I've never seen a P bass neck that has rosewood board with a skunk stripe. And DEFINITELY not with the teardrop plug at the headstock. I've seen them on necks with maple boards. A bit overpriced for me anyway.

To my knowledge the skunk stripes were only used on the 1 piece maple neck/board in that era and the rosewood were glues on and no need for the back of the neck routed. Great necks. $1100 tho. Damn.....!

I have seen '78 Jazz basses with rosewood fret boards with a skunk stripe.

At least this guy doesn't appear to be one those assholes that disassembles good vintage instruments
and sells them as parts to make more money off of them. That drives me batshit crazy.

Seriously??? I actually looked through his other stuff and didn't see the parts - but I didn't read the entire auction, either.
