I'll be damned. This is killer, but I'm glad I already have my desired options covered at the moment. 8-)

Great post and good stuff from Fender.

But.. sadly no P-bass (nor P-J) combined with "70's Jazz neck Rosewood+Blocks+Bindings"... (my favorite neck)

Then again... this Jazzzzz..... 8-)

edit: too large of an image..

Dayum, that's big news! Like Matt, too bad I got all my Fender bases covered, but, welcomed news nevetheless. I can dream up a vintage blonde P-Bass with anodized gold pickguard and a mable board, Jazz neck. . . For $1700 with case? Not bad.

I wonder how long they take to make. Maybe Fender got scared of Carvin because of their hit run with both the SB and the new PB.

Buy early and buy often (so Fender doesn't take this option away)

Yeah this IS really cool and is a big step forward for Fender, but honestly I'm not that impressed with the number of choices i.e. I'll never be happy until they give me all the pastels (seafoam green, daphne blue, and that incredible banana cream pie flavor that I don't know the name of) and the ability to mix P pups with J bodies.

I'm probably going to stick with Warmoth.

Argh! So close! I too would love a P body with a rosewood and block binding neck. I want to buy something to show Fender this is the right decision to offer for lefties, but I also want what I want and it's a lot of money to spend to make a point if I'm not getting the rosewood block binding. I'll sleep on it I guess...

This is huge for lefties but looking at it from a righty perspective I wonder how attractive these will be when they can get so close to the custom options in regular Fender stock. My worry is the customization won't be enough to merit the price increase for righties so we'll lose this option.

Buy now indeed!

I don't really feel that this so special. The options for customizing are very few. No color options for hardware, no bridge options, basic tuners, no painted headstocks or even necks, basic pick cups choices. Looks to me like they are charging big time to do what alot of guys do on their own and for way less. Fenders are cool basses but I would never pay their price for basic stuff. I buy used squires, repaint or have them repainted, buy and install the parts I want and its waaay less than a fender. Just my opinion. For what they are asking a way better bass, even a vintage fender can be had.

Oh yeah I also want lollipop tuners. Perhaps a few control scheme options. Definitely tons more colors. Matching headstocks.

etc. etc. what they have would not really even be considered custom for a righty.
I'll be sticking with Warmoth.
