http://www.ebay.com/itm/LEFT-HAND-REVER ... 780wt_1043 I've talked to this guy on the phone, kind of abrasive but seems committed to what he does. Anyone else know about these?

Never heard of him. Bass looks nice, although the 'reverse headstock' feature feels more like laziness. I suppose it all depends on the quality of his parts and setup to determine if this would be a better deal than building you own Warmoth.

I did get a chuckle from his statement in the description:

"I play darn near every note on a bass throughout a performance"

huh?

If you mostly play songs involving 3 octave chromatic scales you can get there for sure

I might play every note on my bass during "Margaritaville" depending on how bored I get.

Has sat in with my band...every song is a bass solo, not the friendliest cat around.

Too bad he put a Jazz Bass bridge cover on a Precision. Just doesn't look right :P

And it's not very nice to say this about your customers:
Quote:
This bass was custom ordered and made for a customer who is a total a-hole, but it's a pretty cool bass.

Jeroen beat me to it. I thought this was a really lame thing to put in an ad. :?

Yeah, it's an interesting comment to make, especially because of the first thing he says on his homepage:

Quote:
As a bassist, luthier and a competitive contender trying to get my piece of the pie, I learned along the way what's really most important is being helpful to others. When we all do that, the pie gets bigger so everyone can have a piece. There's nothing I love to hear more than "You're right, it's my new favorite bass". So how may I help you?

Well, as a bass repair tech and luthier for over 40 years, all I can say is- good luck to anyone in business that is actually intent on trying to do the right thing. I wish him no harm whatsoever. He might indeed be well intended. THAT SAID...As for the bass pictured for sale, it's so wrong on so many levels. the pickguard looks like it doesn't fit, it's hanging over the 'line' and spoils the look. That's because the body appears to be different from standard Fender Precision bass dimensions. The Jazz bass bridge cover is totally out of place on the precision bass. Traditional old school old farts like me react to that stuff kinda like a turd in the punchbowl. I've seen some nice work by Bill Nash, reliced 'Fenders', and some of those had weird, non standard looking- almost but not quite correct lines, too. Hey, if it floats your boat.... I'd spend the money on a more worthy bass- they're out there.... sometimes even on here!

Ouch! I hadn't even noticed that, because when the Jazz bridge cover caught my eye, I didn't look any further. But that's awful!

Yeah the pick guard placement is horrendous. Never hire Helen Keller as a luthier.
