What's your opinion? I'm sure that many of you have seen this. In fact, there was another one up there
that included the original tuners that I got for $500. With the prices of whole basses of that era going
for around that price - to people on this board - I think it's way overpriced. So, I sent the dude a friendly
email stating as such. His reply is below.

Well I've had multiple offers in the 1200-1500 range.
I'm holding out for 1600. So thanks for your opinion but that's just not
true and you will see when it eventually sells for close to what im asking.
You got a good deal, but they do sell for much more.

It is WAY over-priced. I purchased a 77 Bound and Blocked Jazz neck with original tuners from Southpaw guitars about 4 years ago and it cost me $600. For the price he's asking, you could get the whole bass-not just the neck.

I would sell that neck for $1200 in 0.2 seconds

Here's a question I've had a long time:

How much does it cost a seller each month to keep an $1800 item up on ebay?

That guy has NOT had multiple offers in the $1200-1500 range. The guy is full of shit. That neck is wildly overpriced.

I counted 11 holes in it that aren't original.

Maybe he thinks those holes are worth extra.

He's also charging you for the laughs you'll have when you're thinking about the idiot who replaced the original tuners without keeping them.

After all, it is "the real deal and what you've been hoping to come across."

I dealt with a guy before selling a '78 P bass that was stripped of finish and pretty rough/not all original parts and he wanted $2500 for it and basically told me I was a liar to say it was worth any less. I went so far as to have Kevin at GoodGuyGuitars look at it online and give his professional opinion of it's value and the seller again basically said I was trying to scam him. Some people think they're right and aren't going to let facts and reality get in the way of them being "right" about something.

Been wondering how much it costs to keep re-listing ever since maybe 5 years ago. Someone had a lefty tort guard (vintage of course) up there for YEARS....

$700ish IIRC

maybe it's the same dude?

Has anyone e-mailed and asked about all the tuner mounting holes in the back of the headstock?

I think those might be normal (depends on the tuners)

I'll dig up a pic to shed more light on what I mean.

It can depend on the bass's era and/or the type of tuner spec'd

In these examples from ebay you can see the Mexican (listed as a "Vintage 50s RI") has a certain style "route" as does the genuine vintage neck

He's been trying to sell this neck since Oct 19th, 2012, and has let offers either expire, or has declined them. He's definitely been waiting for some fool to pay the big bucks... for five months now. Wasn't there one just recently on eBay that sold for a lot less?

Yes, I bought that '78 neck. She had it up there for $1,200 - no takers. One night I drunkenly emailed her and offered her $500, explaining that it was
over priced. She re-listed it for $700 and sent me an email saying she'd sell it for $535 shipped, so I scooped it up. It came with original tuners and I believe it
to be NOS because the original nut is on there and it's not slotted. I'm hoping to find a period Jazz body, but I do have a USAGC Jazz body that I may throw it on...

I know a bunch of peeps who bought some late 70's P-Basses for less than the price of this neck. Recently there was a 78 P-Bass at Used Gear Guitar Center Sacramento for $1,100. So good luck with your neck mister "I got plenty of offers"!
