Seems like a great deal for a '77, regardless of the re-fin... especially like the bound neck. Just curious from the Fender gurus - is the neck true to the period?

I just bought a '78 neck from the Bay a couple of weeks ago and it looks exactly like this neck.

Let's see what happens when it gets here. For now I've ordered a new "vintage" v/v/t harness from rothstein to replace the current one which is apparently malfunctioning. I'll probably try to fix the original one too. Haven't decided about the pickups. Period-correct ones are crazy expensive. Thoughts?

If that harness is original - I didn't look - I may take it off your hands as I'm building a '78 Jazz...

belinmad, when you get the bass go out and get some contact cleaner. They have it at electronic stores and Radio Shack if you dare. I keep a bottle around for electronics and pots. It worked wonders and revised my 74' and 78' original Fender pots. They work as good as new now and they were scratchy and sounded like a short before I cleaned them. Turn multiple time to break out any crud developed in the pot.

Regarding the pickups, they have the Fender 75RI pickups on Basspartresource.com. IMO a lot of boutique pickups are too overwound to be period correct.

So its here. I gave it a thorough cleanup, switched the pickups for a pair of Fralins, replaced the tone pot, a fresh pair of strings and a good setup.
It has a very warm sound yet with an aggressive attack. The neck is in very good condition save for a deep but thin nick - not on thumb's way, so not a problem, and overall quite fast. The inlays and the bound thing are killer.
The body shows the age, little nicks all over, definitely not a collectors piece.
Will post more tomorrow with more pictures and maybe an audio sample if I get to it.
