Yes, it's a wenge neck and fingerboard. It's a very early MTD.

Man, those 535 are monsters. I sold one of those to somebody here in the forum a few years ago, for $2000 or less. . . One of the best sounding basses of all time, head to head with my Sadowsky and Lakland. Only thing it didn't do it for me was the weight - you know I'm a girl when it comes to weight, and the neck was rather thick and rounded, and on a 35" scale, 21 fret bass, the neck just felt huge. Too much for me to take in, like they say. And I'm not a big fan of the MTD body shape - I just never liked how it settled against my rounded body.

$3000 for a used it's really pushing it, although where would you find another one unless you go new? And wenge neck with wenge fretboard = OMG!

MTD's are indeed 'the BOMB'. I own two-a 1997 Six string Avadore Body with Wenge/Wenge neck, along with a 2009 Ash/ash Figured walnut 4 string. AMAZING BASSES and worth every penny! They absolutely zing with my tecamp puma 900 & 2x10 cabinet.
BTW this baby listed at Bass Central has been invoiced-not surprised! Who's the lucky guy?

Not me..... I like what Mike's doing now on his newer necks and choice of unique woods. Already have something brewing in the works with Mike.

If you look close at the bridge, I suspect the original owner was a lefty strung righty. It's intonated righty. Mike DEFINITELY did not do that by mistake.

I bet $$$ that Lefty007 got it. It's right in his ballpart for weight... OR...... markcv ;)

Oh, not me. Like I explained in my post, although I love the sound, the ergonomics are not my cup of tea.
