Just in time for Christmas. You don't see one of these every day!

Man, I love these mystery cases.

Fodera? Maybe it's a Fedora! or Furdera!

1. Never seen a Fodera in that style, nor are there any of the Fodera trademark elements
2. No logo at all?
3. If Fodera had agreed to built such a thing (let's assume, for a wealthy customer) it would be listed at $20,000, not $4,400.
4. It does seem to have nice components: nice binding, figured maple, pickups, Hipshot (which Fodera doesn't use), Hipshot bridge (which Fodera doesn't use) so it does looks like a quality custom.
5. Maybe this is a N.Y.C. Fodera custom, made in Japan? Nah.

I would ask the seller but I have no interest whatsover in such a thing. Well, I just sent them a message, I'm curious how people come up with this stuff.

You could ask whats-his-face at TB, one of the Fodera partners/managers, he is super active there.

who would order a custom unit from them regardless of the price and then turn the bassline pickup around so the logo is upside down?
Reminds me of the Tennessee multi neck units that are so popular around the web.

actually, I just emailed the cust-support on the Fodera site with the ebay link just saying that the seller was claiming it was one of theirs and if it is not then our community will flag it and have it pulled...

and for pricing?...this is more like it from the same seller:

Regardless of who built it, my guess: mondo neck dive!

Who needs to jump from bass to guitar in the middle of a set anyway?

wow!!!!!

Dear Michael,

Thank you for your concern! It is nice to know people are looking out for us.

However, strange as it may look, that is indeed an instrument we built a number of years back for a customer. It was definitely not a usual build for us, and clearly does not match our traditional "look".

That instrument is actually being sold by one of our trusted dealers, GTR Store. You can see all of the Foderas they have in stock at the link below (there are a few other unusual builds on there as well):

All the best,

Phil Zuckerman

Um, me.

I've actually been looking for a double neck guitar/bass combo. Why? Well I've been quite vocal about my continuing desire to find the perfect midi bass setup with near zero latency in controlling synths, since I play guitar synth in my cover band and bass in another. None of the available pitch to midi systems out there can track a bass note lower than A before annoying latency sets in. (except the Industrial Radio Midi Bass - see sly3000). My best/cheapest solution so far has been my Carvin LB50 strung with piccolo strings. The problem with that is how do you reclaim bass register sounds again without using software samples? My solution to that has been a Digitech Whammy dropped an octave, which is what Jack White uses to replicate bass sounds (Seven Nation Army). It's the only pedal I've found that sounds close to a real bass. (It's got a gnarly Rickish tone). With a double neck setup, the guitar portion of the instrument could be configured with a Roland 13 pin PUP while leaving the bass as is.

BTW, one big plus of this particular double neck is the dual outputs. It truly baffles the mind that 90% of all these bass/guitar double neck combos I've seen out there only have 1 jack. What are you going to do, run your bass through a guitar amp or visa versa? Idiotic.

TRS cable from the unit to a dual mono 1/4 splitter box on the other side instead of zip-tied dual cords from the unit?

You'd need an A/B/Y box I think, if you wanted to blend both signals simultaneously.

Here's a double neck bass/guitar in action in a creative way using looping:

just a little side note - Fodera do use Hipshot bridges ever since - they do have an "own" bridge made by Hipshot which had been on their custom basses the last years together with their "Fodera custom" bridge (made by some other supplier - I personally like the Hipshot bridge better - I had both on my Fodera's) and when Jason (their new manager) joined they've put those Hipshot bridges only on their NYC basses and called it the "standart" bridge. You can see the Hipshot bridge (in chrome) on my upcoming new one in january ;)

They also use Hipshot bridges on their custom basses when the string spacing is about 16.5 mm
