I'm happy someone here got it. I couldn't bid on it because it remained a USA only auction. Congratulations Matt! :)

I decided not to bid - just looks too fishy, but I hope it's awesome!

What do you mean? The bass itself looks totally legit.

I own 2 '78 Jazz basses (well one is a '77) but both have 3 bolt micro tilt necks and bullet rod adjusters. The bass listed in this auction is the real deal-without a doubt. The original pickguard was most likely Black. You scored man!

Yep unless it's a very clever counterfeit (and why would anyone choose this particular model to do so), it has all the features of a late 70s Jazz. And yep, it should've had a black guard for sure. I'll probably throw one on there.

Edit: The only thing that doesn't look like it belongs (other than that silly Leo Quann bridge) is the set of control knobs. By this time Fender was putting strat style knobs on Jazz basses. But I think this is a transitional time anyway, so they may be original to the bass. No matter, I would've put these knobs on it anyhow.

Congrats Matt..... I was going to take a drive to the guys shop to view it but was afraid I would leave with it. It was a consignment item. Glad someone here got it. Look forward to hearing the review.

Great steal of a price!

All of my 70's J basses have those knobs Matt. So you're right about the transition period at that time. Fender was always kinda screwy when it came to that stuff. Yours is a 78 for sure. Enjoy it man!!

Do you have a pic of the bass?

I couldn't see the auction because I'm on the other side of the border, dammit,
