There's one at Dave's guitar, and I saw a few on Southpaw's FB page.

http://davesguitar.com/products/rickenbacker/4003-left-hand/

I'd be real interested in finding out how Ric carved the necks on these new ones.

Do you know what they're selling for these days?

no, i haven't called any shops. If Ric follows its' previous policy, there'd be a 10% upcharge on lefties. I've seen dealers list new righty 4003's for $2199 on ebay, so I imagine a lefty will go for somewhere around $2400.

called Dave's and I was WAY off the mark. It's $1895 + shipping. Basically an almost 20% upcharge from the righty's for which they are asking $1595.

A lefty 660-12 - which is high on the G.A.S. list - will go for about $2595. Assuming Ric ever makes them again ....

I seen they now have a couple at Dave's and unique for the new basses is that they changed the orientation of the Triangle Position markers. This means they actually did some work to make a Left Handed neck.

Attached are two pics, new and old, you will see for the Logo they switched where it points down, this is how the real logo is, next there is a bump (not sure how to describe it) at the bottom and it should be on the top. In short they took Right handed necks and right handed logo plates and turned them upside down, this is really unfair if you have an up charge.

Also note the Triangle Markers are now set the correct way.

Lefty Ricks have had the "correct" logo and headstock for almost 20 years now. I'm not 100% sure, but I believe they first started giving the lefties a true lefty headstock/nameplate around 1993 or so. As for the direction of the shark fin inlays, I don't know, but I'm guessing it might have been around the same time. See Peter Levett's incredible Rick collection:. He's got 2 examples of a '93 4003 with both lefty and righty necks:

THAT'S what you meant by "changed"? They did that YEARS ago. One of my lefty Ric basses has the "mirror"/current headstock and I've owned it at least 20 years!

I don't think it's been more than 10 years since the fingerboard inlays were "corrected".
I very much prefer the old way, RH neck on LH bass. 2 of my 3 Ric basses are "old-style".

I agree, it's never really bothered me either, if for no other reason than I never realized it was wrong and McCartney's had that look too.

And Paulie's has dots instead of the triangle inlays, as I recall.

Correct! His is a 4001S; no dots, no binding(neck or body), and mono output only. My Ric with the "MMT" paintjob is a 4001S.

Man... I'm seriously considering selling my '78 Precision to fund one of these.

A lot more expensive than the one at Dave's though.
