Way to dig up an ancient thread. If we are dicks to point out that someone is being less than truthful, than I am happy to be a Dick. If you don't like it, the door is over there...

I take it you're the seller?

I think you mean using an online forum to warn potential buyers from being unfairly overcharged for an item with a misleading description.

I didn't agree to any confidentiality regarding message exchange on eBay.

If you're butt hurt about this message then don't try to overcharge on ebay.

He's PM'ed me his upset and I've explained that he is welcome to politely explain himself in this thread if he feels wronged by his actions being criticized. Otherwise if he joined the board just to spout off we won't need to worry about his company much longer.

Nah, he's already shown his true colors.

From our great ongoing PM exchange:

"its called buyer beware for a reason, there was nothing wrong with it nor did he lie at all, just listed for a high ass price, if someone bought it theyre stupid."

Among other gems. Guy is obviously younger than he's trying to present himself, not right to let it carry on.

We'll get ourselves another messiah. ;)

to be fair, anyone can list an item on ebay for any price they want to set.
Be it realistic or not is of no relevance to anyone unless you are looking to buy.

As long as the listing is a honest description of the item, i personally see no problem.
It wont sell but thats not my problem, i dont care.

that's right. but we also have to right to discuss such auctions outside of ebay and
express whether or not we see said price as fit. but as I understand this auction had some indescrepencies.

Letter to JazzPunkMessiah:

Dear JazzPunkMessiah,

First of all, welcome to LeftyDickBassist.com!
Like you, most likely, I love the internet! Google, Freedom of expression, first amendement (if you live in the US), all those good stuff!
It is a always double edge sword though. It can keep people honest, and allow folks from all over the world to share stimulating ideas, making us more informed (as in this instance), at the same time, it allows all the scoundrels of the world to aggregate, share their hatred, twisted vices and dubious agendas under the cover of anonymity. It's called trolling.
Consequently, I am convinced you could find on the web, other forums that will fit your personality better.
I must say that so far we've done a great job keeping the discourse courteous and troll-free over here. It ought to remain so. Thank you for the entertainment! So long

That's the rub. The listing didn't identify the bass as an overpriced Chinese built Hofner. The description on the auction was worded so you can't tell what kind of Hofner it is. And that's the clever part of the problem, because logically you're going to look at the price and assume its a German made Hofner for a good price because why would someone post a used Contemporary Hofner for $200 more than a brand new one? And that's the grift.
It preys upon people who don't know better.

If the seller had said "Chinese made Contemporary Hofner bass" in the description and still listed it for $900 then yeah, they can fill their boots with their crazy attempt to make extra money by overcharging.
