A great "American Standard" P-bass with a nice Squier logo on the headstock!

I was trying to figure out whether the seller is more of a a dumb ass or more of a crook but looking at the picture of the headstock taken sligthly sideways with a reflection on it, I lean for the crook qualification. Hopefully nobody will fall for it and buy a used Squier for the price of a new one or more.

the listing reads fine to me.
nowhere does it say fender.

Doesnt say "made in American"
As far as the guys thinks, this bass is of American standard condition

You can also see clearly Squire on the headstock photo

When you list something as an "American Standard Precision Bass", you don't need to say "Fender", as you've already implied it. There is no other company on earth making an "American Standard Precision Bass".

Except that it not really a Fender much less an "American Standard" P-bass as it is listed and descibed - It is a "Squier P-bass" made somewhere in Asia and it is not mentioned anywhere. I maintain that the listing is clearly deceptive. Bugsy, I don't understand what you mean by "the bass is of American Standard condition".

It might not fool anyone relatively knowledgeable of those products but it could mislead some young kid or beginner who really believe they are bidding on an Fender American Standard bass. Why isn't it listed for what it really is in first place? A Squier P-bass.

Its just clever selling
Like when you buy a house or car etc
I may be wrong but nowhere can i see "Fender" written?

My guess is he is saying it is built as good as American Basses
"American standard", thats what i read it as.
You can clearly see the headstock so i dont think he has to state what brand it is.

If he had said it is a fender, then that would be a problem.

Just my take on things

Bugsy! If you are the seller (as I presume) or affiliated with him, I am sorry for the crook qualification but you ought to re-list your bass for what it is or you will make a bad name for yourself in this forum. There is no such a thing as "clever selling". It is just dishonest. And by the way, I bought exactly the same bass from Gravesbass for a $100 and I saw a mint one at Guitar Center for $200

[quote="bugsy"]the listing reads fine to me.

I don't mean to be pedantic, but the seller did list it as follows (their spelling):

Item specifics

Brand: Fender
Series: Precision Base
String Configuration: 4 String
Dexterity: Left-Handed

Now I know that technically it is a "Squier by Fender" (and for the record I am a marketing guy), but we all know that this is stretching the truth at best. I agree that we all see "creative" marketing every day, but that doesn't make it a good thing. I'm not bashing anyone, but I agree with the other posters who'd like to keep it honest.

Clearly deceptive (or the seller's just misinformed or uneducated) and not even debatable. "American Standard" implies just that: A specific Fender model made in the USA. Just because "Fender owns Squier" does not mean it's a Fender model, and it especially doesn't mean it's American made via six degrees of separation.

Interesting in that it was you who reported it and not the OP who was so fired up about it that he started a thread about it.

Bugsy: The phrase "American Standard" is an actual model of a Fender bass. Labeling a bass as that implies that it is one of Fender's flagship "American Standard" basses that are manufactured in the USA.

It is not clever selling... it is ONLY one of two things. An honest mistake, or outright deception... there is no inbetween.

Anyway... I asked the seller to explain why it was listed as an Amercian Standard, when it's obviously a Squier.

I doubt I'll get a response... if I don't, I'll report it. But, if I do and it's an honest mistake, then I'll give him the opportunity to pull the listing before I report it.

Apparently all of our reports to eBay didn't mean shit, because someone just paid $350 + shipping for a used Squier P-Bass.

*sigh*
