I'm usually disgusted by the prices on vintage P/J basses, but I'd almost be willing to pay for this one. Great condition, near original, and its always been a dream of mine to have a birth year bass. It's in almost too good condition to be true.

Real nice looking bass, but I wouldn't pay $2500 collectible money for it with a refret and refinned fingerboard.

How come the rest of the serial # are not the same size as the 76 ?
I have a 76 JB and it doesn't look like that at all !

Oups ! I just look in my Fender book and they did use that style as well.

Damn' Fender lol

Ditto, I'll be quite surprised if someone throws down $2500 on this. Might be a great looker and player but from a collector perspective I'd rather have one slightly less pristine but all original- it will hold its value much better.

Well, heck then, I'll sell anyone here my 78 P bass for $2499.00 and throw in free CONUS shipping. The only things non-original on mine are the pup covers and the nut.

Now, how's that for a deal?

Pup covers and nut are easily the most collectible parts on any bass Marc. Knock $1900 off the price for non-original parts (fair market value) and I'll take it.
