That's a Hot Rod P. I had a transparent Orange one that I sold here. Their value has been on the rise and they've become harder to find lately. (there's also a sunburst one available). I wouldn't be surprised to see it go for over $900.

Yes, they're fairly unique in that there hasn't been another lefty USA Fender for about 20 years that was available in so many colours :P

These were available in black, natural, 3-tone sunburst, translucent sunset orange and (if I'm not mistaken) white blonde. Strings through body were standard, as was the tortoise pickguard. Very nice.

I had a few of those when Musicians Friends were having a clearance when Fender discontinued the model in 2001, and bought 3 of them brand-new for $500 each! No kidding.

They look beatiful, but all the 5 Hot Rods I had were a bit heavy for me (maybe around 9.5 lbs., in comparison the newer Ps that are much less than 9 lbs.) and the fret work was really terrible in all those basses, but nothing a good dressing can't fix.

I had them in all colors: black, natural, white, black, and sunburst! Those were the days. :)

I really wish Fender would offer something other than black and sunburst. Even MIMs are now only available in those two colors.

I have heard that fret issue about the HotRod's and the frets slightly sticking out the sides of the neck. A Plek could do them wonders if needed. I recently picked up an American Standard 2008 Fender P in sunburst. It weighs 8lbs14oz. Perfect weight and the thing is a monster. I LOVE this bass. Not big on the P's but they plays and sound fantastic. The new American Standard's are worth every penny especially used. The fretwork and tone is great. No dressing needed on mine.
