On Facebook Marketplace. Be VERY careful with FB Marketplace. Place is crawling with scam artist scumbags. My son just got ripped off buying a PS4 game, and a couple of people tried to scam me too by pretending to be interested in stuff I'm selling (The old Overpayment Scam). But here it is, caveat emptor:

It's in the works. Spoke to owner on the phone. Great find Peter. I've been wanting one of these basses for so long. I have the matching guitar.

What a cool looking bass! I know nothing about these- what’s the deal with those P90-ish pickups?

They are humbuckers I believe. Probably low output like the guitar ones. Sound wonderful

Good luck! I would love to find a lefty JS II acorn and oak leaves carved one someday, but I've never seen one. I'm curious what the 2nd switch does. (I assume the first is a PUP selector).

The mini -toggle is a "Deep/ Hard" tone switch that adds a capacitor, wired to ground, in series to the neck pickup volume control. When the capacitor is in circuit (the "Hard" position) it allows the higher frequencies to pass through to the volume control & blocks the lower frequencies, producing a brighter tone . When out of circuit (the “Deep” position) it gives you the full signal. This applies to all the Guild JS and Starfire basses that had the Guild Humbuckers (not the earlier Hagstrom Bisonic pickups).

Congrats on your find! I have a 1977 JS II (when Guild introduced the B301 / B302 basses in 1976, the JS basses were still available thru 1977, but dropped from the catalog). They did receive the added benefit of the upgraded Schaller brass roller bridge introduced on the B301-302 models. And I love the "root beer" burst finish!

IMO all the 1960's-80's era Guilds are so underappreciated. I think that the JS model in particular often gets overlooked as an Gibson EB "clone", when it is definitely much more than that. Granted, it was clearly aimed to compete with the EB0/ EB3, but in a head to head comparison of build quality, tone and value these basses were equal, and arguably superior, to the Gibsons in many aspects. The JS neck is amazing, and Guild humbuckers have great vintage fundamental tone - smooth and round, these basses just naturally sound good.

Does anyone on this board live near Raleigh,NC? This guy is reeeeaaally dragging his feet on shipping this bass to the point that it might not happen methinks. It's either a scam or he won't/can't ship it.

Maybe a local inquiry would at least let me know if its a scam or not? I'd happily PayPal the price + shipping if someone could pick it up in person.

I know some folks a couple hours away from there, so I shot the seller a message thru FM a couple days ago to ask if it was still available… never got a response. Hopefully you got it worked out with him?

Thanks Carmine. No I have not. I have his phone #. Feels wierd essentially begging someone to sell a bass that's supposedly already for sale. We spoke once but that was almost two weeks ago now.

I got the bass home safe and sound. Loving it so far. I had never laid hands on one. It's said to be a short scale but it's actually medium scale about 32" which was a neat surprise.

The little toggle switch puts the neck pup in kinda of a mudbucker mode or a cutting clanky mode closer to the bridge tone for a neat blend of tone options.
