Something rarer than hen's teeth popped up on the bay. Pjmuck and I discussed this fellar briefly in another thread, where there was a link to the store on Gbase. But I believe there are more and better pics here. Seems to be in damn fine shape for a pre-CBS machine, but hey, what do I know, I'm no vintage expert.

To me, this seems to be pretty darn close to original. There doesn't look to be any futzing around of the solder joints. The patina on the tuners are consistent with tuners not beinbg played in many years. Finish is in great shape.

What say you guys about the logo, pickguard and knobs? Wouldn't a 64 have staked knobs, or am I way off base? I thought clay dots and stacked knobs kinda went together so to speak.

I believe the stacked knobs version only lasted a year and was discontinued in '62.

It is often rumoured that the 'clay' dots actually contain asbestos that was removed from the floors of the Fender factory. Nothing was wasted ;)
