1990 Stenberger 5 String White

Post by jayceofbass »

This is from the same shop in Edmonton that's selling the 8 string Hagstrom. I'm no Steinberger expert - at all - but this looks to be in surprisingly great shape for its age.

Sometimes I think, maybe I'm lucky I'm left handed. If I could play any bass I wanted, my collection would REALLY be out of control.

Wow, I never knew they made lefty 5-strings! This is the first one of its kind I've seen. Very cool!

The fact that it's White (rare), 5-string (rarer), and lefty (rarest) made me pull the trigger. As a Geddy, Sting, Curt Smith fan for years... and also realizing I don't have a 5 string I moved some finances around to make it happen. I hope I like it. I know the spacing is close on these... which I actually like, as I'm an avid Bass VI player. But this thing is 1.5" at the zero fret... might be tough.

Even the 4-strings are narrow at 16.5 mm. I have never played a real Steinberger, but I do have a Hohner B2A and it has a feel all of its own (despite having played 5-strings with the same spacing). But they're sooo cool.

I mean, I played around with my buddy's righty 5-string rick... those have pretty narrow spacing too and I loved that. Now if only I could find a lefty one of those without issues...

Wow, it's beautiful, and the condition looks like brand new! I like narrow spacing myself (my ATK305, and Carvin SB5000 5-strings both have narrow spacing)... and, like Jeroen, I have a 5-string Hohner B2-A... curious when you finally have this bass in your possession; is it a true 34" scale? Congrats on you purchase... that is indeed a Rare Bird!
