I have a 71 Les Paul, way back in the 80's I sent Gibson a Letter with my SN asking what year it was and they replied that it's either a 70 or 71 however if Made in USA is stamped then it's a 71. I still have the letter in the guitar case. Funny back then it didn't really seem to matter what year the guitar was made so the records were all over the place.
