I owned it for a short period of time. I think I used on a handful of session dates and then sold it. Great sounding bass but it had a neck like a pencil.

Wow, great looking bass and I think the price is a good value.

It was narrower than a standard J?

It definitely felt that way to me. Especially in comparison to my other Jazz basses. I never took any measurements of it (really didn’t feel it was necessary)

Not sure about anyone else but I find myself looking at this bass almost once a day since this was posted.

I think it was bbl's bass at one time.

No, that one was a 2 piece body with a 2xx serial.

Last I checked, it had been sitting at NJ Guitar and Bass for years, probably due to the $2600 asking price.

Is this the one that was supposedly going to go to Paul McCartney?

Laklands are incredible, but if Macca starts playing one full time, I'm going to be pissed. I keep hoping he'll forget that great Höfner for a while and remember how great he makes a Ric sound. I've read that the Ric is worn out after 10 years of near constant use. I'm very prejudiced because my fave era of The Beatles pretty much begins when the Ric comes into the picture.

I think he used a Jazz on some of the White Album and all of Band On The Run.

Yes, the necks on these are very slim. The satin finish might make it feel a bit more slim too. I owned one of these too. And the original Glaub has a JO neck. The glaub was my main bass for years. Love these necks.

The Lakeland that was made for McCartney is still available at New Jersey Guitar and Bass, they also have some other great basses for us.

Here is the McCartney bass listed there $2,600

That neck looks pretty sweated upon for a bass that never reached the person it was intended for.

But, then again, neck can be cleaned an after that it could still be a bass with a above & beyond approach because of why it was made.. :)

If you're interested in this "McCartney" bass and think you're paying a premium for that story, I recommend confirming it with Dan Lakin directly.

When I owned the bass, I tried, but was unable to confirm it.

That being said, it's a fantastic bass.

It looks like a great bass, as all Laklands are. But the McCartney connection is pretty tenuous if true. It sounds like he never touched it himself. I love the Beatles, but are we now extending their magic to things that were simply made for them? If so, I bet their are a lot of handmade presents sitting undiscovered in many grandmothers' attics from when they were teeny bopper Beatlemanics in 1964.

I'm being silly. Of course he's played many other basses, notably the JB during those albums. I love that Ric though but don't think he's ever going to wield it again.

I just emailed Dan Lakin. His reply:

Yes it was built with Paul in mind but we never got it to him.
