Man those pictures are amazing! Great Price as Fender Japan make great basses. I have 62 RI with the strap pin on the head of the bass, I have no idea how they played that way in the 60's, it just feels so un secure.

I have played one just like that. There wasnt really nothing special about it. Pretty much same quality as my long gone basswood fender japan jazz. (Not saying this bass is not worth checking out) What makes it a custom shop? Fender japan used to make all kinds of basses in the 90s and early 2000s.

It seems that the hardware is same as basic models. My friend has a very nice fender japan with alder body and bridge with adjustable spacing and bigger tuners. To me that one is more cs even though its a off the shelf model bought around 2007-2008.

I sold one here, it had a logo in the back of the headstock that was built by a special team in Japan and the body was ash.
Now that you've mentioned, this one doesn't have the same logo in the back, makes sense!
I'm not an expert in Fender basses but from all the years I've been seeing these basses, this is the second one I've ever seen factory fretless, cool find for sure!
