$1940/offers

Just awesome! And this is a very good price when considering how much the horseshoe pickup must have been! I am tempted to grab it, myself!

The unbound and dot inlay S has to be my favourite Ric build. I suppose I can thank Chris Squire for that.

But, where's the Horseshoe? I've always thought that "cover" on those is the actual horseshoe form of the magnet pole pieces (which is why there was a gap in the middle). I think the reissues fake things by fitting a permanent magnet out of sight, but shouldn't it still have the pole pieces?

Yeah, in the original horseshoe pickups, the horseshoe is the magnet. But, they have the problem of losing their magnetism, so RIC nixed them decades ago. Lollar still makes a genuine horseshoe pickup for only $600. I haven't tried it, though. $600

When I say "horseshoe" for this bass, I mean the re-issue horseshoe which is just a "normal" pickup voiced to sound like the genuine horseshoe as much as possible. It has some big pole-pieces. It is used in the reissue models, such as the V63 and maybe some others. The pickup covers for this and the standard bridge pickup are strictly cosmetic, a carryover from the original horseshoes, and do not affect tone.

Even though it isn't a "real" horseshoe, it is still not a cheap upgrade. It is an expensive pickup to begin with, and not easy to find on top of that.

I love the sound of this pickup in my V63. I have a custom wiring harness with the extra capacitor to give it some extra bite, as well.

I also prefer the look of the S. I do like the body binding of the normal 4003, and I definitely prefer the triangle inlay to dots, but I like the rounded top edge of the S.

Odd that it is intonated as a righty bass.

This happens a lot with the RIC basses. They just grab a std bridge and slap t on a Lefty bass.

That's Quality Control
