The neck radius is specified when you build the bass on the site

Ah yes, I recall seeing the radius now. Anyone know how to determine the nut width of the necks? As you all know--probably better than me--nut width can vary dramatically (it does on my three P basses). It would be great to know those sort of specifics if/when I order one. I figure I can simply call Fender to find out when I'm ready.

For detailed specs, just compare them to the "ready-made" models that Fender already sells.

All of the vintage necks appear to be from their "American Vintage" series and the modern necks appear to be from either the "American Special" or "American Standard" series.

The Am Standard and Am Special P necks have nut widths of 1.625" and a radius of 9.5". Per Fenders website the Am Vintage P'S have nut width of 1.74" with a more vintage radius of 7.25". I have also read that the Am Special neck is slightly thinner front to back than the Am Standard .

I just don't get the"U" profile only option on the bound block necks they're offering. U profiles were not very common on Js comparatively to C necks. Maybe I'd like it anyway, as I seem to haver gravitated to wider beefier necks in recent years, but I'd prefer what I'm used to on a J

I wonder why you can order a p bass with a maple board blocked jazz neck but not a rosewood board blocked jazz neck?

i played a lot with some configuration, and dreamed about having some cool basses

i had the bad idea of reading the details

"American Design Experience instruments may only be ordered and shipped within the United States at this time"

Hi to all!

I need help: I am seriously considering buying one of those wonderful basses!

Couple of questions: I do not know which pups I should pick. I mostly -try to - play funk/slap so I would need the most appropriate pups from the 4 choices available. Any recommendations? Are the noiseless any good?

Second, I am struggling deciding on body color. Can you please let me know which one you prefer?

Thanks!

Happy to 'help'!
My favorite body color is the Vintage Blonde, as shown on your bass no.3 (actually the whole bass is my favorite).

Without the real experience needed to back it up, I would say any of the (reissue) 70's pickups. I currently have the 75 RI-pickups on my Jazz Bass.

The custom shop '60's have a very lively and textured sound. They are not too hot and overwound like many boutique pickups. They are great indeed (sorry pickup freak here)
I am dying to try those new '64 pickups though. Come to think about it, I have probably spent around $2,500 on pickups since I started playing bass 25 yrs ago and I should stop the madness.

Thanks much, that's 2 for the 60s!

I did contact Fender customer support and asked for their opinion regarding the best pup for slap. They recommended the N3 (anybody tried them?), or the vintage 64 for a more vintage sound...

Frenchy, need to ask, are you French?

Truthfully the most important to get a good slap sound is to have an instrument with a good sustain, a modern/heavy type of bridge helps and a low-action/less-neck-relief set up. All the different pickups will work on a such an instrument. I also prefer the feel and sound of maple necks to this effect. Fender N3's have a full and balanced sound, they are more bassy than Custom shop '60's but they are also less lively and have less character. It is always a trade off.

Btw All my pickup experimentation lead me to this conclusion: When a bass is a dud, you can try all kind of pickups, it is still a dud. A good instrument will sound good even with mediocre pickups. I like to try instruments unplugged first it is the best way to asses their potential.

Thanks for the guidance and advice, much appreciated. I think that if I pull the trigger I will take the 60s.
