Just the opposite, it'll look bad ass on you. Look at how cool guys playing big hollowbody basses look. An instrument that looks big on you looks cool to me. I dislike the look of the reverse though, big guys playing small basses.

Great point! Well excitement and impatience got the best of me and I ordered the one Thunderbird Jim at Southpaw had there.

And got to love my wife. I told her I ordered it and she said she'd give me some money towards it for our upcoming 1-year anniversary.

Congratulations, let us know how you like it when it arrives. I know Jim will give it a once over before it's sent to you so it'll show up ready to go.

Will do!

Anyone know of any good gig bags that will fit these? I see Ritter has a Thunderbird one, but it looks like it's made for the curves of the righty Thunderbird. For my Carvin, I use one of those Incase Tour Bags, which are awesome, but it seems only smaller-bodied basses will fit.

I just ordered the last SG Standard bass from Southpaw - Jim said they've already been discontinued. I'll post pics when it arrives!

Holy crap! Congratulations! I wonder if the same goes for the Thunderbirds. I have mixed feelings about their being discontinued. On the one hand, it shows that it's not worth it for them to make left-handed basses. On the other, they'll become collector's items. My feelings lean towards the former.

And if they all get discontinued, I also feel bad for lefties who didn't know. Gibson still has nothing on their web site about it.

No kidding. I've wanted a lefty SG bass for as long as I've been playing bass (12+ years), and I would have completely missed it if it weren't for the good and diligent people here at leftybassist.

Glad I bought my two basses when I did, couldn't really afford it but I know how Gibson does things.

+2. :)

Still curious if they discontinued the Thunderbirds, and what the total production number was.

You guys should email Jim if you're still interested in a lefty Gibson bass. All he said to me was that the SG was discontinued; that doesn't necessarily mean all the other models are too. You could also call any authorized Gibson dealer and they may be able to give you some info.

In related news, my SG ships on Thursday! I'd also love to know the total production run because I assume I'm getting one of the last ones. My serial # might be indicative of the total run.
