Got my T-bird yesterday. Burst.

Per the comments, neck dive is WAY less than vintage ones I've played and the Dillion I bought from Jimmy a coupe years back.

Seems like the head stocks are smaller and the tuning keys lighter than they used to be.

Fit and finish is really strong (surprising given the "finish flaw" reported here on a prior one and a mis-wiring on the first batch of SGS).

Ronn and others. Your SG Standard basses should be shipping out of Nashville today. Jim.

Passive.

My real rig ('76 SVT) is at the rehearsal space, so I've not yet plugged it into anything that would be telling.

Got my LP bass today and it absolutely KILLS. It's a rock machine...it seriously roars. Never heard anything like it. Not sure how I'll use it, but it sure is nice just to have it. I may place another order soon...we should get while the gettin' is good- Gibson may never make another lefty!

Out of the blue, Jimmy at Southpaw just mentioned that he was getting lefty EBs too next week.

Like this, but lefty?

I' loving this...do you think Gibson will keep lefties as part of the line up or is this a one time hit like they so often do?

the indications I got at NAMM are that these (and all the other lefty they are pumping out) are one hit wonders unless sales justify keeping them in the lineup

Seems to be "standard operating procedure" for Gibson and (mostly) Fender: Pick a COUPLE of pieces per year and do them in lefty for that one year only.

Only Gibson has only done it with guitars before. First time for basses. And, they are doing MOST of the line now (no non-reverse T-birds, no Rippers/Grabbers).

But, each year it's been "these three Les Pauls only" etc.

Fender seems to keep Jazz/P in Burst and Black year in and year out and do a COUPLE more in lefty too (mystic red and black this year).

These Gibsons are all made in the U S of A. That new EB is really tempting!

Ok dumb question. Is Southpaw the only dealer offering left handed Gibson basses? I have Gibson dealers galore around here (not to mention I'm 2 hours away from Nashville), and Southpaw is typically priced higher than everybody. Unless I missed that info somewhere in this thread, does anyone know off the top of their head? I'm plotting an SG purchase.

+1. I'd like to know as well.

BTW, I tried a righty EB at NAMM. (unplugged, however, as they didn't have amps there). Very light weight (8lbs?) and had a nice feel/look. You wouldn't mistake it for a higher end instrument though, but if it's priced right I might just pick one up (along with 3 or 4 other Gibsons. Now where's that tax return money? ;) ).

when southpaw first started this i looked all over the net and found no other referance to this. I called Gibson personally to see if it was a scam or inacurate, the guy at gibson told me it was true and that ANY authorized Gibson dealer can order lefty models, southpaw was smart enough to run with it whereas NOONE ive seen has. So there ya go! I am loving my new thunderbird as IM adjusting the truss rod as I write. It was set up great cept I tune down to Eb and use differant strings. Im NOT loving the righty machines. Grovers that is.
