I can help you with the Lakland, jazz bass, sunburst, tort guard, rosewood board part of your wish, it's that pesky fifth string I can't help with.

Thanks Andrew, I'm just frustrated. This is the part of being 'lefty' that is so tough sometimes. The Skyline Lakland JO5 is exactly what I want and quite affordable. Do you have any idea how to get something like it for under $3,500?

Man that's a great looking bass, I've just gotta have real 3/4" string spacing at the bridge. Seems like Fender would get that since they started the whole thing. ;)

Hey! I'm not a 5 string guy, but that's a great looking bass!

I heard Nash was going to start doing 5 strings, he might be worth checking with.

Otherwise, no, I have no idea who could do that. It's funny too, because it is a pretty straightforward bass, you'd think there'd be someone out there who could build it for a reasonable price.

If Warmoth or someone would make 5ers with 3/4" spacing in a nice J or P body style....why, the world would be......yadayada.

Those MIJ 5-string look like they took a P-Bass neck and used a 5-string bridge. I wonder what the string spacing is. . . looks tight, as in 16.5-mm ridiculously tight.

Alan, check out Valenti. He can do a J-style 5-string with wide string spacing for under $2000.

I just tried the black one he's got in stock. Amazing-sounding, and the quality is right up there with, dare I say, Sadowsky. Honestly, top notch. But I was searching for a somewhat thinner neck than my 535, but the Valenti has a medium C-shape neck that is thicker than the 535. Not small enough for me. . . So I kept the 535.

But I think Valenti's neck profile is similar to Lakland. . .

There's Warmoth, too. You could have a luthier build it.

Actually, I think that's kind of what Nino Valenti does. I've heard nothing but good things about his work.

Ping Carlos,

You returned that Valenti Bass? Was there a 48 hour return policy on it? I think he also uses Warmoth body and necks to build his basses. He does great work right up there with, dare I say... Sadowsky. Was the string spacing 19mm?

Yes, Nino has a 5 day return policy. He's been using USA Custom parts lately. Very high quality. I think he does some fret polishing at home, to make sure the fretwork perfect.
The spacing was indeed 19-mm.

USACG does indeed offer a true 19mm spacing - the best you can get with a Warmoth Deluxe 5 neck is 17.5mm. this is a big reason (but not the only) I don't use Warmoth 5-string necks/bodies. I've spent time with the guys at the USACG shop, and all they do there is totally top shelf.

not to hijack this thread, but I just thought I'd drop a hint: it'll be interesting to see what you might see me post about near then end of this year ;)

19mm = yep
5-string = yep
a true lefty for no added cost over a righty = yep

but that's enough of a tease for now ...

I'll post more when I can (including an image or two) ... it's just a little too early yet to say anything further ;)

Gotta be a Carvin.....or maybe a G&L; I can't remember if they have a lefty upcharge. But the CNC hint makes me think Carvin.
