Re: HATING the new Harmony Central!

Honestly, I've always hated HC. To me it always seemed like a bloated corporate clusterf***. The only time I ever used it was if I googled something and a HC page just happened to be near the top of the results page. Any time I tried to navigate the old version of the site I would just get bogged ...

Re: Lefty Eastwood Airline Map Bass

after my SX purchase about a year and a half ago now, I've been relatively GAS free in regards to basses... but then you guys have to keep posting in this thread. I URGE the mods to please consider deleting this thread. if not for me, do it for the children.

Re: New to the site and liking what I see so far

The G&L Tribute is, IMO, the best bass money can buy for under $550. (Well it was, but I think they raised the price to over $600 now). still, I bought mine from a fellow member here for $350, and I'm blown away by mine. American PUPs, bridge, and preamp. Completely different sound than a MIM Jazz ...

Re: Who on here is a pedal junkie?

I'm definitely an "effects guy," but at the moment my board is pretty sparse:

pitchblack->105Q->BBM->Digidelay

I've got some other things lying around, and was getting into "noise" (merzbow, emeralds, etc) for awhile, but currently I try to just stick with what I "need" for my current project.

As ...

Re: More than 4 is OK for anyone including Jaco

Cool picture.

I think the people who argue about that kind of bullshit are the people who are more interested in being a bass player than being a musician. IMO it's all just slabs of wood with metal wires stretched across them, do whatever you want to get the sound you hear in your head.

Re: New Player - Tips/Resources

I don't really agree with the "just play righty" advice UNLESS righty and lefty both feel equally comfortable starting out. Be aware there are many drawbacks when it comes to gear, it's fairly difficult to get ahold of lefty basses. Personally though I like the fact that the availablity is limited ...

totally agree, they look like the cheesy ibanez copies that used to fill every pawn shop in the 90s to me. Of course it's all subjective though.

Re: random rant about jacksonville music scene

Wow - such venom against guitar players in this thread! We do play bass guitar you know LOL

Since we are talking about playing original music, doesn't any writer here write on guitar? That's what I do. Sometimes keyboard but 90% guitar.

I don't have any issue with guitar players, just blues ...

Re: random rant about jacksonville music scene

Ah, well if the main melodic theme is played on bass then you have a point, but then that sort of messes with the "plug and play" format of a blues jam and might understandably ruffle some feathers of the folks at the jam. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with putting the melody on the bass ...

Re: random rant about jacksonville music scene

IMHO open mics and open jam sessions are just euphemisms for "accident waiting to happen"! My advice if you want to do originals is just wait until you can put a band together. I speak from experience - I really don't like playing cover songs much. Seriously, when I want to do covers, I reach for a ...

Re: Flipped over Lefty bodies as "Signature" Models: LAME!

The Gibsons are especially frustrating considering how difficult it is to get ahold of a Gibson lefty, yet there they are using them to make more righties. I have to say though that nonreverse firebirds look pretty nice (rather than most of the others that just look gimmicky).

p.s. that supersonic ...

Re: Classic Rock w/ Vintage Instruments

If a band is that obsessive why doesn't it bother them that the gear has 40+ years of aging augmenting the tonal characteristics? Couldn't it be argued that new replica gear would actually be MORE authentic?

Most of the people I know have either spent time in jail or take part in activities that would land them in jail if they were caught. Of course, I live in America where the prison system is a FOR PROFIT venture, and jailtime is the answer to every problem.

I'm actually getting to be somewhat decent at playing a lefty bass strung lefty. How else can I know when the bass is set-up just right unless I can play it in the configuration it was built to. it was the same thing for me when I was building 6-string basses

Do you mean playing ...

Which brings up another point: why isn't there a donate link? Some other forums I'm on have a simple paypal button at the bottom of the page that a member can click to give whatever amount they would like. Probably wouldn't get much now, but might as well give the option right?

I am glad to hear that Tamiflu is "free" in the UK. It won't happen in the US believe me.

It's being done to prevent profiteering and hoarding, both of which are potentially big problems over here.

Over here we call profiteering within the healthcare system "standard procedure/good business ...
