It's not a tube head;there is NO output transformer. The problem with two cabs is that it is built on the cheap and its power supply cannot deliver enough current to its output devices to sustain a 4 ohm load.

Heyboer sells new ones and rewinds old ones. They'll be slightly cheaper than Mercury Magnetics, but for an amp as relatively oddball as the Major, tranny replacement is going to run around $1000 just for the parts. Most any tech who can diagnose a failed transformer will have a source for repair or replacement. I can point you to a few, but first, who told you the amp needs new trannies? Majors do a have rep for eating tubes, but their transformers are usually fairly robust.

Though I am heavily influenced by specs and software results, I try not to have them be the deciding factor. Tone is in the heart and hands, not the software or hardware. I've had amazing results from totally out of spec gear that defies logic.
