Re: Eastwood Sandman Signature Bass

I’ve always had a bit of a soft spot for the scroll design of those original vintage Premier Basses.
But yeah, I’d have to mod this to a 4!

Re: 1972 Carvin SB-60 Bass

Cool indeed! The SB60 had a 4 year run...that listing on Reverb is mislabeled as a 1972 - it’s actually a 1973-75, as evident by the headstock inlay and bridge cover.

The SB60 was followed by the SB61 (1976), and SB125 (1977) which were both 1 year-only models- therefore in theory even more rare ...

Re: 60's Teisco Bass - $150

Yep, a similar short scale 30.5". It has no visible brand name- thus impossible to determine exactly where it was sold, but this and a Hag II likely would have been competitors in the late 60's department store/ catalog house guitar boom.

I know there's folks that tend to assume that most of these ...

Re: 60's Teisco Bass - $150

Thanks Paulo…

Saw your post, recognized this from several design/ manufacturing hallmarks as a Kawai bass from 1965-1968 period (bridge/tailplate assembly, pickup, string retainer, 3-piece neck construction, etc.) and figured hey- a vintage 1960’s Japan lefty, 15 minutes from my office- gotta go ...

Re: Italia Modulo bass

Ah, something fun to talk about! Yes it was a very good price, so not surprised it went fast...

Italia is one of the more interesting "modern retro" brands out there. Headquartered in the UK, but their series and models are all named after beautiful Italian cities and towns. Build quality is quite ...

Re: aria pro II cardinal CSB-380

I used to own a CSB 380 (flat top and bolt on neck) and also a CSB 450 (carved top and set neck). Both were excellent playing and sounding basses featuring the 32" medium scale that Aria was using on several models in the mid 1980's. The lefties are scarce, and the 450 is the one to get if you can ...

Hmmm… that might be the black one I previously owned- couldn’t find my old serial # so not sure. I really like these basses, wouldn’t have given up the black one if I didn’t have the red one!

Re: 1979 Peavey T-40 conversion to left handed

Ditto on the Kustom Bass Rig, Paulo...which cab is that- a 2x15?

That Squire mod is sweet! I've thought about using a Fender platform for my T-40 stuff... but also thinking it might be cool to use something a bit more off the beaten path- I've got a "spare" Hagstrom FXB220 just sitting around that ...

Re: 1979 Peavey T-40 conversion to left handed

Well done, Paulo! I also stared at that body on Reverb for a LONG time (I’ve been sitting on a complete set of T-40 electronics for several years) and thought about doing exactly the same thing. Ultimately I decided that although I really like the T-40 sound, the T-40 weight, body and neck are just ...

Re: Carvin Bunny Brunell

That Bunny Brunell is a beauty! I see it's listed @ $1595…

Carvins are imho still the most underrated bass brand on the used market, thus prices are still low relative to their exceptional overall quality. The upside to Carvin's lack of "snob appeal" is that some absolutley amazing Carvin basses ...

These are excellent, well-made instruments. Matsumoku quality with appointments that will remind you of the Aria Pro II SB line at the time (also made by Matsumoku).

Re: Left Hand Vantage VP795B Bass Guitar, 1981

I love symmetrical shapes. That’s the kind of bass I’d like to make.

Having said that, I had a Vantage acoustic at some point in the 90s—worst sounding acoustic I ever owned. Solid concrete blocks couldn’t have been less resonant. I’d totally forgotten about it until I saw this photo. Ugh.

Looks like someone’s “lost weekend” project… cut the top off the headstock, sand the logo off, stain it to try to match the body color, and while we’re at it- might as well cut the tops off the cloverleaf tuners too. Oh- and fill in the pick guard holes with some stuff… yep, that’s better!

Great info, thanks! (And that 5er is indeed super rare). l I know the Korean models were assembled in NJ, but were lefty MIAs with the appointments you mentioned ever made? That red one of yours seems to have the Vaccaro bridge and Gotoh tuners, but Basslines PUPs. Some sort of hybrid of parts?

Re: 1990s Vaccaro V2 Bass Black Finish Left-Handed Electric

I'm not sure how you can tell a MIA from a MIK model, but maybe someone else can chime in (Oh, Carmine!). I do like the sounds of this bass though. Punchy with sustain..

I think Jeroen hit on the key differences (Schaller bridge, Sperzel tuners) and I would add Ebonal fretboards and Duncan ...

Re: 71 gibson eb3 slotted headstock - Reverb

As if Gibson headstocks weren't fragile enough. "Let's make it slotted too."

I understand they also offered long scale versions of these basses as well at the time. Anyone ever seen a lefty? I could warm up to a long scale EB3 (I'd store it with a boxing glove on the headstock when not using it ...

Hey Richard- you got everything right ;) ... Looks every bit as lovely as it did 6 years ago, one of the nicest CT's I've seen. Great sounding bass too- does a great job of capturing the classic German 500/1 sound... but for tone and versatility the CT is a much more capable bass!
